WIP before applying final concrete finish.

When the design is more complex I will first finalize the plan with foam board and then use those as the stencils for the final cuts.

T&D (Tina and Dave) is a musical duet and couple in Cincinnati, OH who approached me with the desire for a guitar player. Knowing they were a duet there was no way I was going to allow this piece to just have one figure. I surprised them with the concept using foam board (shown below) to make sure they were good with the direction. They were in love.

While it was not the original plan, the final form required a simple base— as the result ended up with three, versus two, layers in z-depth, which made it more top heavy than intended. Something that is fun with these sculptures, is when the pieces that overlap create shadows that mimic the same approach I may use when drawing my figures.

When creating sculptures representing the human form in a minimalist way— it can easily come across as cheesy or overly realistic. I’m super pleased with finding an expressive way to represent them while still maintaining details like a mic and playing the guitar left handed.
